This prayer is composed based on the teachings of Shri Nisargadatta Maharaj.
By trusting the words of the Sadguru, one realizes that God is everywhere! Your very existence is the form of the Supreme Self. Keeping this in mind, meditate with that awareness. A true disciple (Satshishya) accepts the words of the Sadguru as the ultimate truth. The words of Sadguru are nothing but the sacred mantra (Naammantra); they are the very form of Omkareshwar (the Lord of the Primordial sound Aum). It is the form of Ekeshwar. The mantra and Omkareshwar are one and the same. This realization may be vividly present in someone or may not be. When remembrance is strong, both will be perceived as one. This is the true meaning of Sadguru’s words.
How should one chant the Guru’s words? Do not transgress the words. Do not forget the words. This means: "I am the consciousness, the Supreme Brahman"—just follow the Guru’s words. To obey His words is to never forget one's true essence. Remain firmly committed to realizing your true self through the words of the Sadguru. It means that Guru’s words are your very own self. If the remembrance of the Guru remains, then the remembrance of the His words will naturally follow. The Guru has said: "You are formless, bodiless, and of the nature of pure knowledge and bliss." With wisdom and discernment, surrender completely at the feet of the Guru. This itself is the Guru’s grace. You are pure and bodiless. At this very moment, you are without form and all-pervasive.
Your bondage exists only in your mind. Through meditation, you will analyze and ultimately dissolve this bondage. Upon attaining God-realization, one understands that everything is an illusion, and only then do all bonds dissolve. We exist before illusion! Our true self (pure consciousness) exists prior to illusion (Maya) or delusion (Bhram)! It implies that before identifying with the mind, body, and worldly illusions, our real nature is already present-eternal, beyond illusion, and unchanging.
What is the root of delusion? "I am the body"—this belief itself is delusion. "I am the body"—this ignorance creates delusion. Maya (illusion) means ignorance. Ignorance means fear. Due to this, the individual soul (Jeev) clings to certain beliefs or identities. This acceptance leads the soul to experience corresponding realities. Due to the fundamental illusion, you are bewildered and struggle for your well-being.
The sacred Name of the One Absolute Reality. The internal or mental worship is of great significance. True worship happens in the mind and heart, through sincere devotion and remembrance of the divine, rather than just through physical actions. Wherever the mind wanders, it finds the feet of the Sadguru. Completely surrender and have faith in the Sadguru. True realization comes when one sees the Guru's guidance in every aspect of life.
In a seeker's life, unwavering faith and deep love for the Guru’s words are of utmost importance. The words of the Sadguru are my true form, my very essence – hold this simple conviction firmly within.
